No matter where you stand on the academic front. No matter how highly you are qualified, you may still be bandied about and humiliated because the people you choose to work with or are forced to work with due to a quirk of fate, may not value your education or experience.
This is rather sad. But it happens all the same. And, if you happen to be at the receiving end of such a situation, you may curse your luck for not being successful in spite of putting in your best to get the best education in town and excelling in your school, college and post-graduation.
If you happen to be in such a deplorable situation, the odds are that you are not in the right place. Only a jeweller might be able to identify and estimate the true value of 24-carat gold or a flawless piece of diamond. If you ask people who are not in the know of such things, gold and diamond may be undervalued by them way below your expectations.
Now, take the case of bottled water. A branded 1-litre water bottle might cost $1 in a general store. If you were to buy the same bottle at a 3-star hotel, it might cost you $2. In 5-Star deluxe hotel, the same bottle of water might cost you $3.
At the airport a branded 1-litre bottle of water might cost $4. The same bottle of water might cost $5 in flight.
Mind you, it is the same brand and the same water. You get the same quality and the same quantity. Yet, there’s so much of difference in price. So, what’s happening here? What is the key reason for difference in prices? With a little thought, you will realize that it is the place that is making all the difference. It is the place that is modifying the price or the value of the item. Each place assigns a different price to the item depending upon its location.
If you are stuck up at a place where you feel that you are not getting a decent value for your services, it is time to give it a serious thought. Don’t sit around and wait for something to happen on its own. Nothing might happen. Don’t stagnate. Look for opportunities. Explore every possibility. Be bold. Take the initiative. Be prepared to take risks. And, if need be, more risks. Move on. Keep moving till you find the right place—a place where people recognise your qualifications and experience; a place where they value your capabilities; a place where they understand what you can deliver—that’s the way to grow. That’s the way to get what you really deserve. That’s the way to succeed in life.
