Hobbies add sugar and spice to our life and help us to tide over difficulties where others tend to sink or drown. Though most of us tend to ignore or neglect the need for hobbies in our life, hobbies continue to play an important role in keeping our sanity and enjoying our life more than we usually do.
The best way to keep ourselves occupied and keep going in life is to cultivate hobbies that would help us to do so. There is a news organisation that is so employee-friendly that no employee that gets employment in that company thinks of changing their job and choose to stick around till their retirement. This organisation not only tries to ensure job satisfaction of the employees while they are on their rolls but also try to help them settle down and lead a peaceful life after their retirement.
Two years before the retirement of each employee, the counsellors of their Human Resources Department start interacting with them. While they discuss family, financial resources, investments and other important matters related to their life after retirement, they focus on their hobbies too. The counsellors strive to gather information on the hobbies of the employee through these interactions. If an employee does not have any hobby, they help the employee to identify hobbies that would be useful and engaging for them once they retire. They encourage the employees to adopt those hobbies and help them to develop them.
The point is: those who are reconciled to leading a retired life after retirement—those who do not intend to look for opportunities to continue earning a steady income and keep themselves occupied—findit difficult to kill their time once they are retired. Some of them become a nuisance to their family since they do not know what to do with their newfound spare time. That’s why it is important for them to cultivate some hobby to invest their time gainfully or to engage in some social service activities.
In view of the growing importance of hobbies in our life, it makes sense to start exploring the hobbies of our choice early in life. It makes sense to develop the hobbies that would make our life worth its while.
We need at least five hobbies to make our life worthwhile: (1) a hobby that helps us to earn money; (2) a hobby to keep us shipshape; (3) a hobby to develop our creative genius; (4) a hobby to build our knowledge; and, (5) a hobby to help evolve our mindset.
Almost everything in life revolves around money. Whether we want to study; whether we want to buy something; or, whether we want to avail some service, we have to pay for it. we need money to make that payment. So, we must develop a hobby that would help us to make money.
In order to do all the things that we do, we need to be healthy. So, we need to cultivate hobbies that help us to maintain a good health. It could be exercising, jogging, walking, working out in gyms—in fact, anything that tones up our body and helps us to be active all the time.
If we are not creative, we may end up being monotonous. Therefore, it is important to develop our creative faculties. We may do so by exploring new vistas and experimenting with innovative ways to do the things we do. Creativity is an ongoing process and we can keep on enhancing our creative talent till the very end of our life.
Knowledge is power. So, we must continuously focus on building our knowledge. We may read books, watch videos, listen to podcasts, browse the worldwide web and engage in such other things that help us to increase our knowledge and keep pace with the changing world.
If we want to get ahead in life, we have to constantly focus on evolving our mindset with the changing times. A fixed mindset results in stagnation.
Come to think of it, hobbies can do so much for us in our life, yet we hardly ever realise the importance of hobbies and choose to ignore them. If you happen to be some on who has ignored the importance of hobbies, it is time to start investing part of your time on hobbies right away. It is better to be latethan never!
