How Accurate are Astrological Predictions?

If you are someone who grabs for Sunday newspapers or magazines and reads the astrological predictions for the week before everything else, or follows astrological predictions on YouTube channels or such other sources on a daily basis, hold on! The weekly predictions or, for that matter, the daily predictions on the basis of which you are planning for the week ahead or for the day in question may not be all that accurate.

The astrological predictions are usually based on twelve sun signs which are basically constellations of stars. These are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
It is generally believed that there are twelve sun signs and astrological predictions are based on this. Somebody discovered about a couple of decades ago that there is a thirteenth constellation called Ophiuchus.

For some time, astrologers debated if they should change their entire system of predictive astrology based on this new finding. Subsequently, Ophiuchus was squeezed in between Scorpio and Sagittarius. That reduced the number of days allotted to each of the sun signs. It also altered the period assigned to each of the sun signs.

Ophiuchus created a lot of confusion and controversies amongst astrologers. Some astrological predictions started appearing in newspapers and magazines based on the new-founded system of thirteen sun signs. That created utter chaos for some astrologers who were happy to cling to the old school of astrology which believed in twelve sun signs.

Ultimately, everybody fell in line with the old school of thought for fear of bringing down the edifice that was built over a long period of time. Besides, there was a dearth of charts and data based on the new system. So, they reverted to the old system as a compromise formula.

The fact of the matter is that there are thirteen sun signs whether we like it or not. Astrologers may ignore the thirteenth sun sign for their own convenience. They may make their predictions based on twelve sun signs. But that does not alter the fact that there are thirteen sun signs. Don’t you think it is wrong to ignore the thirteenth sun sign? Would it not have any bearing on the predictions?

If I have six fingers in my hand instead of five, I must take the sixth finger into consideration whenever I use my hand. Simply by ignoring this fact, I cannot begin to live as if my hand is normal like anybody else’s hand. The fact is that the sixth finger is there. It might make my hand look ugly. But it would be too painful to cut it off. So, I might as well acknowledge its existence and live accordingly.

The same applies to astrology. Don’t you think so?
