Anything that causes stress could lead to depression. If it is not addressed in good time, it might end up in deep depression. It is, therefore, in our own interest to find ways to prevent or reduce stress in our life while we can.
If you are stressed, you have to work at least three levels. One—to address the cause of stress. Two— identify and put stress relievers to use. And, three—to adopt measures that will prevent furtherance of stress.
If you are given to heavy drinking, check yourself. Alcoholism might numb your senses for a while. But, once the intoxication level falls, you will be face to face with reality. In fact, those who like to coax themselves into believing that alcohol is a stress reliever, learn it the hard way that it is one big source of addiction and you may result in a feeling of insecurity once the intoxication level drops.
If you are a couch potato or someone who spends all your time at your work table, your stress levels may be higher than someone who exercises regularly. That’s because exercise relieves tension in our muscles and does a lot of good to our joints and bones.
If you are of the opinion that burning the midnight oil is the true path to success, think again. Sleep deprivation can cause more damage to your mind and body than anything else. So, make sure you get 8-hours’ sleep a day. If that is not possible, at least sleep well for six hours a day. And, don’t ever make any compromise on this.
Don’t brood over your problems in solitude. It is not a healthy habit to try to find solutions to your problems with knotted eyebrows and a frown on your face sitting all alone in the corner of your room. If you ask me, this only worsens the situation. So, if you are facing some serious problems in your life or your job or some intricate situation, try to share your problems with your friends. They may help you find solutions to your problems. In any case, two heads are better than one. Besides, they may provide the much-needed moral support to you and help you tide over the crisis situation.
If you are a people pleaser, you have a huge problem at hand. Think of the times you failed to say ‘No’ to situations that demand a ‘No’ for an answer and felt miserable for not being able to do so.
Think twice before you enter into an argument with someone. Are you sure you are in the right? Are you talking to someone who is magnanimous enough to see your point and accept it if you are able to prove that you are right? If not, it is not worthwhile entering into an argument with that person. At best, it might end up in a shouting match and create bad blood in the process.
There’s scientific evidence to prove that music can introduce a soothing effect on our mind. If you are a music lover, nothing like it. But, if you are not, there’s no harm in giving it a try.
Lack of dietary control may result in a lot of lifestyle-induced ailments. Make sure your body gets sufficient nourishment but, at the same time, remember not to overeat. Binge eating might lead to obesity while starving yourself to death is not without repercussions.
Spend some time to cultivate the habit of keeping track of your thought process. Make sure you do not dwell too much or spend too much time on things and issues than they truly deserve. Dwelling too much on past and future issues might cause worry or anxiety and prevent you from living in the present moment. It is imperative to keep your mind fresh to enjoy the present moment.
Finally, desist from overthinking. If you ask me, this is at the root of most problems in the modern world. Overthinking, particularly in negative situations, might eat into your peace of mind.
This might look like a heavy dose. But, once you get into the habit of following these simple rules in life, it will become second nature to you. And, you will find yourself much more relieved and relaxed in your day-to-day life. Like everything else you need a working plan and a plan-B to manage stress the right way. Everything you do in direction will contribute towards a stress-free life.
