Most of us are in constant competition with the rest of the world day in and day out. We coax ourselves into believing that we are in an eternal rat race which will end only with our death. We live under the false impression that our success depends on beating everybody else. To us, that is what success is all about. But that is not at all true.

The first sign of self-growth is when you stop blaming others and own up responsibility for what is happening in your life. Nobody else is responsible for what’s happening in your life. If something goes wrong you have to fix it yourself. You cannot depend on others to sort out your problems. Once you start assuming responsibility for your life, you will learn to solve your problems all by yourself. The reward for not blaming others is that you become problem solver instead of a blamer. That boots your confidence manifold.

The second sign of self-growth is that you don’t give a damn about what others think of you. You don’t feel the need to impress others. When you try to impress others, you seem to be suffering from an inferiority complex. You think of yourself as being inferior to the person you are dealing with and you want to match up to that person. That’s what give rise to the urge to impress others. The only person you need to impress in life is yourself. If you are impressed with yourself and your performance, that is what matters most in life.

The third sign of self-growth is that You stop seeking approval from others or the society for every little thing. For some reason, many of us live under the constant fear of whether what we are doing will be accepted by the society. So long as you are doing what you are doing with total honesty and integrity, you don’t need validation from others. So long as you are not doing something that is illegal or criminal in nature, you don’t need the approval of other for that.

The final sign of self-growth is when you stop making excuses. If you make a mistake, admit it and start working on how to put things right. Don’t make excuses or explain away things. That way you will never learn anything. That way you will get into the habit of making excuses for every little thing. If you get into such a habit, you will never be able to complete your tasks on time. If you get into such a habit, you will never really become a responsible person. The whole idea of making excuses is to bail yourself out of difficult situations most of which are of your own making. When you make an excuse, you are trying to avoid a situation that you are supposed to deal with. That way you will never gain confidence to deal with difficult situations. That way you may not make much progress in life.

In a nutshell, these are the four indicators of personal growth. Take a few minutes off to review your personality on these lines and make course corrections where necessary and you will hit the highway to your personal growth and success.
