If happiness is your number one goal in life, follow these guidelines like a bee headed for its beehive:

When you are alone, keep a check on your thoughts. As the old adage goes, an idle mind is devil’s workshop. There’s every chance that your mind might go astray and dwell on things that do not lead to progress and happiness in your life. So, you need to remain focused on the things that you really want to do in life.

When you are with friends, watch the words that roll out of your mouth. Most of us take our friends for granted and say many things that may not be palatable to others. We think of the whole thing as a joke or something. Always remember that people aresensitive by nature. Words that slip out of your mouth unwittingly might hurt their feelings. So, watch your tongue when you are in the company of your friends.

When you are angry, make it a point to watch your temper. Words that we utter or things that we do in a fit of anger are often things that we repent at leisure. When we are angry, we lose control over our thought process and end up doing something stupid. That could be dangerous. That’s why we must try to keep our temper under control when we are angry.

When you are in a group, keep tabs on your behaviour. Make sure that you do not do something that might be difficult for others in the group to digest. Particularly, when we are in a multi-cultural group, things that we take for granted might hurt the feelings of others. Try to gauge the tastes and preferences of the people constituting the group and fine tune your behaviour accordingly when you are in such company.

When you are in trouble, you come under heavy stress. That fogs your thought process and you are unable to see the situation clearly. Under such circumstances, we tend to jump to conclusions and often act in a manner that might be detrimental to the long-term interests of our life. So, we must try to work towards emotional content in our daily life.

When things start going your way, don’t go overboard with your behaviour. Be reasonable. Don’t get excited to such an extent that you become arrogant and start harbouring an inflated ego. Learn to be humble and be nice to everyone.

These are some of the important areas where we find most of us wanting in focus and attention. If you pay a little attention to these daily situations, you will find yourself in a much happier state than you are in today.
