Trust me—most of us live in a fool’s paradise! It takes us all our life to understand simple things of life. And, we spend fortunes to satisfy our silly ego.
Now, look at this: all our life, we hanker after top brands of watches because we seem to think that a branded watch adds to our personality and prestige. And, we shell out several times more money to acquire that high-end watch. It is only inold age, when we have all the time in the world to brood over such things, that we realize the huge amount that we spent on expensive watches was a waste of money. At the end of the day, an expensive watch does exactly what an inexpensive watch does. Both tell the same time!
Most celebrities spend huge stacks of money to buy branded wallets and handbags. Though it makes no sense to spend huge sums of money to flaunt a high-end wallet or handbag. When it comes to spending money, it is not the brand of your wallet or handbag but the amount of money that you are carrying inside those that matters. It is better to carry a $30/- bag with $470/- inside than to carry a $500/- bag with no money inside.
Whether you own a mansion or an apartment, it takes people to make a home out of it. Otherwise, with all the investments you make, you may still be living in a house bereft of happiness, with loose relationships, harboring a feeling of loneliness because you may not be in communication with others in the household. Space creates distance.
A small car can ferry you to all the places that a Mercedes Benz can. If you are stinking rich and you do not know what to do with the money, it is fine to splurge on a Mercedes Benz. But if you are investing your hard-earned money on a Mercedes Benz just to show-off, you will regret your decision one day. When I buy a car, all I look for is whether it has four wheels; whether it starts when I turn the ignition key or hit the start button; and whether if moves when I engage the gears and stops when I apply the brakes! That way I save a lot of money on my car purchase.,
If you think that materialistic things can bring true happiness to you, you are sadly mistaken. Happiness comes from things that money can’t buy. Things like love, compassion, empathy, brotherhood and other such things.
Be sympathetic towards the less fortunate souls on earth—behumble. At the end of the day, all of us are bound to be laid to rest the same way. They are poor because they wanted to be so. And, we should never punish them for something that they can do nothing about.
So, don’t wait for old age to gain this knowledge. Start exploring right from day one. It doesn’t take age to become wise. If you are wise at young age, you will be much wiser by the time you get to your old age. You will stop wasting your money when you realisz the futility of doing that. It all depends on when you run into these simple realizations of life!
