There is a solution to every problem and there is a problem to every solution. If it weren’t for that, the whole world may not have been going around in circles.
Nobody seems to be happy with what they have or what they are. That’s because we do not seem to value what we have. The blessing that we are endowed with means little to us. It is what we do not have that keeps our mind occupied all the time.
Most of the time, we are mad after what we do not have. That is a problem in itself. And, it gives people some opportunity to make an issue out of that. They mint money by seeming to offer some semblance of solutions to those problems.
Before we proceed any further, let me make it absolutely clear to you that this is not a serious piece of writing. In Corona times, I thought any comic relief that brings a smile on our face, should provide some relief from the depressive atmosphere we live in. I thought it might act as a shot in the arm and improve our immunity to this dreaded pandemic in some way.
We are led to believe that being short in height If we are short, that is a problem. If we are fat, that is a problem. No matter how comfortable we are with our constitution. The moment we start thinking as to what the others would think of us, we start squirming. We are prepared to shell out a fortune to get back into shape and find acceptance in the society. As a result, short people want to become tall; fat people want to become slim and trim; and so on, and so forth. But, at the end of the day, is there any logic in what we are told?
We are told that being short does not add to our personality. So, all of us want to be tall. That gave the pharmaceutical companies an opportunity to sell Incremin Tonic which claimed to increase our height if consumed regularly. People who are bald are made to feel bad so that they would turn to hair oils, hair tonics, and shampoos that claim to stimulate hair growth. People who are fat are made to feel uncomfortable with their size. So they turn to medicines, instruments and equipment, or join a gym for workouts and so on and so forth. The cosmetic industry puts a premium on fair skin and exhorts brown skinned and dark skinned people to try out their fairness creams.
Some of the recommended remedies may work to some extent. But, very few of them are believed to provide long-term solutions to these problems. Life would be much simpler if we accepted ourselves as we are rather than trying to overhaul ourselves to achieve what we would like to be so long as our health is not compromised due to the issues in question.
We are brought up on certain beliefs and superstitions. And, we seem to carry them through our lives without giving it another thought.
For instance, milk is believed to be a healthy drink. In India, cats raid kitchens to steal milk. But, most of them do not look so healthy or put on weight even after doing that.
We are told that we can reduce our weight by walking regularly. If that is true, someone ought to explain why elephants fail to shed their weight in spite of walking long distances for hours in the jungle.
Many people believe that swimming can lead to slimming. In fact, many of us join swimming classes to become slim and trim. But, if swimming could really do that for us, how do you explain the fact that whales are so big and fat in spite of swimming long distances in the sea regularly?
One of the first sayings we learn during our school days is: ‘Early to bed and early rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.’ If that is so, why is it that the young boy who delivers newspapers early in the morning is not so healthy, wealthy, or wise?
My advice is: don’t bother too much about what others say unless there is some real serious issue with you. Just accept yourself as you are and enjoy your life.
Forget the content, and enjoy the joke. Hope this post helped relieve some of your stress. If you ask me, that was the sole purpose of writing this piece. Have a nice day and enjoy yourself! It is okay to freak out once in a while…
