Tip of the Iceberg Called Success

Nothing succeeds like success, they say. That’s why successful people find immediate acceptance and natural admiration among people. Everyone thinks that success is pure magic. They think it is a matter of luck. But very few of us realise that success is like an iceberg.

Success is the visible portion of the iceberg. It is the tip of the iceberg. But, the truth of the matter is that the tip of the iceberg accounts for just ten percent of the size of the iceberg. The iceberg is 10 times larger than what it appears to be. A major portion of the iceberg remains hidden beneath the tip of the iceberg that we get to see.

Success does not drop from the blue. It is achieved through hard work and persistent efforts. It calls for absolute commitment and dedication to the job in question. That might mean sacrificing some of the good things of life and burning the midnight oil.

Success is never a cakewalk for anyone. Quite often, success is built upon mountains of rejections. It is our grit and determination that get us past those mountains.

The other thing is: you will never find successful people who harbour a casual attitude. They are serious. They are disciplined. And, they don’t take things for granted.

Successful people never take criticism in the negative sense. In fact, they take it in their stride and try to improve themselves. They are enterprising and are willing to take risks to see their projects through. They use mistakes as stepping stones to success. They do not proceed in their jobs with doubts in their mind. They clarify their doubts before proceeding further in any matter.

Successful people are okay with failure. For them, nothing is quite final and they look for opportunities in failure. They know that if they push ahead with their job, they can make course corrections when they get stuck and find ways around bottlenecks.

The problem with most of us is that we only see the tip of the iceberg. We fail to see the underlying principle of hard work and commitment. That is why success eludes many of us.
